2020 Announcement on COVID and the Future of ETA4

Dear ETA4 students, volunteers, friends and family,

First, I hope that this announcement finds you and your family safe, healthy and happy. That is absolutely the most important thing!

I wanted to let you know about the status of ETA4 in 2020 and what is in store for the future.

2020 has been a challenging year for many, including our organization.  As COVID-19 spread through eastern Asia in January, our administrative team monitored the situation closely and began to re-examine plans for hosting our yearly summer camp.  As schools in Vietnam began to close, we decided to take a "wait and see" approach.  As the virus spread to the US in March, we realized that it would be impossible to function in our regular capacity around recruiting, fundraising and training.  Without these regularly scheduled activities, we cannot give our students the best possible experience in the summer.  More importantly, the safety of our students and volunteers is paramount, and our administrative team did not feel comfortable hosting a camp in the current environment.

So, the bad news: ETA4 is on pause for 2020.  Our administrative team will spend the summer planning for the future of our organization (including plans to return to Vietnam in summer 2021, situation permitting).  ETA4 is not going away - and this pause will only serve to make the program stronger for our students and community.

Our next steps are to assess the situation through the summer and into the fall, and proceed with planning for next year once we feel like it's safe to do so.

Thank you for your understanding and support.  Please stay safe, wash your hands often, and send me an email at anytime with questions.
