Vietnamese Volunteer FAQ

Please see below for common questions potential volunteers ask us.  The purpose of this page is to give you all of the information you need prior to applying to be an ETA4 volunteer.

Who can apply to be Vietnamese volunteers?

Vietnamese volunteers are required to be residents of Hue, Viet Nam who are fluent in English. Vietnamese residents outside of Hue who want to volunteer can apply, but selection will be based on accommodation arrangement & availability on a case to case basis.

I am not currently living in Hue. Am I still eligible?

Again, all Vietnamese residents are welcomed to apply! However, selection will be based on accommodation arrangement & availability on a case to case basis.

What are the required skills and qualifications for Vietnamese volunteers?

Vietnamese volunteers are required to be fluent in both English and Vietnamese. We are looking for outgoing, flexible and adaptable individuals to be leaders in the classroom.

What commitments are required of me as a Vietnamese volunteer?

Volunteers are expected to

  1. Attend monthly online workshops
  2. Participate in all fundraising, promotional and outreach activities (including our online fundraising campaign)
  3. Commit to volunteer activities in Hue, Viet Nam from June 23rd through August 5th

What if I can't commit the full 6 weeks to the program?

I really want to volunteer and help out, but work/school is in the way. Help!

 

We thank you for the interest in volunteering with us! Unfortunately, ETA4 as of right now is not able to offer you a volunteer (Vietnamese volunteer) position. However, you are always welcomed at ETA4 as a participant/camper and we hope to see you at our camps this summer!

As a Vietnamese volunteer, what is included in the program and what do I have to pay for?

As an ETA4’s Vietnamese volunteer, the following expenses are covered during the program:

  1. Resting room for lunch break
    • Two (2) shared rooms between Vietnamese volunteers
    • Water (filtered gallon of water)
  2. One (1) meal a day, five (5) days a week
    • Lunch, Monday through Friday
  3. Supplies for your classroom
    • Art (paper, paint, scissors, crayons, chalk, erasers, etc.)
    • Athletic (sport balls, hula hoops, jump rope, games, etc.)

 

Note: Please make sure to check our inventory before buying new supplies!

Volunteers have the option to be reimbursed for supplies they’ve purchased individually from the section mentioned above

 

What ETA4’s Vietnamese volunteers are responsible for:

  1. Transportation expenses during the program
  2. Costs for food and activities in your free time
    • Weekdays nights (leisure, dinner)
    • Weekends
    • Before/after the program

What is the average cost for a Vietnamese volunteer?

Each volunteer’s spending depends on how much you go out/stay in. Below are some of the average OPTIONAL costs you can expect to pay as an ETA4 volunteer:

 

Gas: VND 50,000 - 100,000 a week

Food (leisure, breakfast, dinner): VND 25,000 - 50,000 a day

Extra activities (travel, weekend activities, etc.): VND 100,000 - 500,000 for an activity

 

Remember, your weekday lunches and resting rooms at the hotel are paid for by ETA4 as part of the program.
